In books such as Jeremiah and Lamentations we encounter voices and perspectives which are often jarring and uncomfortable. The language of violence, judgment, and suffering seem far removed from the more familiar language of love. So what are we to do with these difficult texts?
In the keynote sessions we will consider what it means to read Jeremiah and Lamentations from the perspective of trauma. We will think about what it might mean to recognise that the communities behind these books were struggling to come to terms with massive loss and suffering. We will explore how recognising the context of trauma and suffering might help us to see hope in these passages: hope both past and present.
