Biography (from 2015):

Rev Dr Vicky Balabanski is Senior Lecturer in New Testament at Flinders University, South Australia, and Director of Biblical Studies at the Adelaide College of Divinity and the Uniting College of Leadership and Theology. She has lived and worked in various parts of Europe and the Middle East, including a year in Jerusalem as a post-doctoral fellow at the Hebrew University. She has written for various feminist collections, including a chapter on the Wise and Foolish Virgins in The Lost Coin: Parables of Women, Work and Wisdom which continues to evoke a range of responses from warmly positive to the other end of the spectrum! She is a writer and editor in the international Earth Bible Project, which has produced a series of books that seek to read the Bible in the shadow of the ecological crisis facing the earth community; she is now working on an ecological commentary on Colossians, reading it in dialogue with Stoic thought. Her publications include ‘Hellenistic Cosmology and the Letter to the Colossians: Towards an Ecological Hermeneutic’, in Ecological Hermeneutics: Biblical, Historical and Theological Perspectives, and ‘The Fourth Sunday in Creation: Cosmos Sunday’, in The Season of Creation, New Proclamation Commentary Series, eds. D. Rhoads, N. Habel, P. Santmire, (Phildadelphia: Fortress Press, 2011).
