Introducing the keynote speaker for SOD 2026:

Sunny Chen!

Rev. Dr Sunny Chen is a National Consultant with the National Assembly of the UCA. His team provides oversight of the national work in areas such as doctrine, theological education, worship, intercultural and intergenerational ministries, and ecumenical and interfaith relationships. Previously, he served as a Presbytery Minister, supporting and overseeing approximately 70 local worship communities in metropolitan Melbourne.

A passionate educator, Sunny chaired the Ministerial Education Board—the governance body of the theological college in the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania—for six years and is currently Vice President of Wesley College Melbourne. He is also an honorary researcher at the University of Divinity and has been teaching New Testament Greek for the past ten years. His research interests include Koiné Greek grammar, the Pauline Epistles, and the Gospel of John.

Sunny undertook his undergraduate studies in Business Studies in Hong Kong before completing graduate studies in theology in the United States. He has served as a youth worker, pastor, and minister in various UCA congregations. He was also a chaplain at The University of Melbourne, where he coordinated a multifaith chaplaincy team.
